Greenville Criminal Court Records Cases

North Carolina does not give cities the power to hold criminal trials. Greenville has no city criminal court. All criminal matters start and end at the county level. Pitt County runs both a District Court and a Superior Court in Greenville. District Court handles misdemeanors and infractions. Superior Court takes felony cases and appeals from District Court.

When Greenville police make an arrest, the case goes to a Pitt County magistrate first. The magistrate can set bail and accept guilty pleas for minor charges. From there, the case moves to District Court or Superior Court based on the charge. Felony cases in Greenville go before a 12-person jury in Superior Court. Misdemeanor trials in District Court do not use a jury unless the case is appealed.
